The temple city Kumbakonam situated in between the banks of Cauvery river and Arasalaru. Kollidam is situated 13 K.M from kumbakonam. Kumbakonam is a busy commercial centre, nestled along the Cauvery River some 37km northeast of Thanjavur. Kumbakonam, the famous temple town of South India, is picturesquely located amidst the two rivers, Cauvery and Arasalar.

During the month of Tula (Tamil month Ippasi), devotees take holy dip (tula snanam) in the Kavery in the pilgrim centers in its banks across Tamilnadu, most prominent of them being Mayavaram. Here you can visit the many superb Chola temples scattered around town, or head east to the coastal towns of the Cauvery Delta. It’s also an easy day trip from Thanjavur. Majority of the Vaishnava Divya Desam temples and Saivite temples are in the delta.
